So I'm about to get tested for hiv in about 2 weeks which marks the 8 week point (had unprotected sex 6 weeks ago) and I am wondering if I should get a blood test or the oraquick test? I believe there are both rapid test for both. Please reply with your input. I've heard the ora one isn't that accurate.

I too had an HIV scare last year and since I have had three tests done. I've had two blood tests and one oar quick test. The first I had done was a rapid hiv test where my finger was pricked and results were back in 20 minutes. I bought the oar quick test about two weeks later. A negative result is 99.9% accurate. It was easy, quick, and simple. All I did was swab my gums. I then had a blood test done where the results took two weeks to come back. All three were negative so I'm over it now. I think either way it's accurate. The oraquick test is definitely more discreet but cost around 40$ which is a bit pricey. Depends on if u have a price range and or care about being anonymous.

HIV-I/II EIA screening tests may reliably identify antibodies within 24-28 days post-exposure. HIV-I Nucleic Acid Testing (PCR) may detect viral RNA 10-12 days post-exposure. The OraQuick Rapid HIV Test is not considered reliable until 3 months post-exposure (per package insert). It is recommended that initial HIV testing be repeated after 3 months, and that barrier protection be used for any sexual contact before repeat testing is completed.
