Can you get an STD from the mere action of unprotected sex, even if both people do not have an STD? Or do you need to have sex with someone with an STD to get it yourself?

No, the person would have to have a disease to give you one.

No, but you can get pregnant from the act of unprotected sex! This will affect your life far longer than the average STD! Also, how do you know that neither person doesn't have an STD? People lie!!! Also women can have gonorhea and never know it while themselves going sterile and infected every man they sleep with, and people with HIV can be symptom free for years before getting AIDS symptoms (and infecting people the entire time!!!) If you are not sure, always wear a condom, but to answer your question, one person has to have an STD to give it to the other. Whether they are aware they have it, that's another question.

In response to an answer below, all germs (bacterias and viruses) evolve from mutations just like any other life form. AIDS and syphillis were caught from animals, probably through eating undercooked meat (monkey for AIDS, bear for syphillis according to one article I read).

Yep, you can get blood from a rock too, even though rocks don't have blood. NO!! If someone doesn't have an STD then you can't get one just by having sex with them. But you need to make sure (if you are a different girl every night type of guy) that you keep it wrapped. If it is with a girl you have been with for a long time and you know she is clean, you cannot get an STD from her and vice versa.

Yes the person has to have an STD for you to catch it. And just because there are not signs of an STD that doesn't mean the other person doesn't have one. You both need to get tested.

Your partner must have an STD to contract one from that person. The problem is that many STDs are silent fore months, even for years. So even though a person thinks they are STD-free because they don't have symptoms, they might actually have something that they can pass along.

One of the people involved has to have an STD. Sex does not just create STD's. Someone has to be infected.

No way can you get an STD if the person does not have one..but, treat everyone you have sex with as if they have STD and use the necessary precautions! Be safe!

You need to have sex with somebody that already has a STD to get a STD. Just make sure to get them tested if your worried about it. (Use condoms)

But you can have kids which can be just as bad as a disease leaching off your wallet and waking you up when your sleeping taking all your relax time away. I would almost rather have a disease than a kid lol.

I think you all miss the point. The question is: How do STD start existing? or How do HIV start living?? If I have sex with my girlfriend for the very first time, without condom. you may wonder how can anyone of us can get infected if both of us don't have infection. assuming that sex is both our very first sex. the question remain how STD start existing?? where we get it?? dirt?? bacteria?? doctors may know..

The only way to spread any disease is by someone who caries the disease... sexually or not.

But be careful, a lot of the times STD's aren't obvious and you can get one from someone who may have it but doesn't show any symptoms.

You need to have sex with someone who has an STD to pass it on... thought that would be logical...

no..

however looks maybe misleading, you cant always tell if someone has one or not.

you can catch an std from someone who has it through oral sex, or if you touch them in the affected area then touch yourself

I wish I could say yes just to scare you into using protection always. No but you can never trust anyone with your sexual health.
